Karex Tooth Protection Gel was developed for the additional protection of the teeth. During its development, the special needs of all were taken into consideration. This product benefits children, adolescents and adults – whether they have healthy teeth, chalky teeth or wear (fixed) braces.
The high-dose BioHAP gel supports caries prophylaxis by forming a protective layer on the teeth. This makes it more difficult for bacteria to adhere to teeth, thus effectively protecting against caries. Karex Tooth Protection Gel also promotes the remineralisation of the enamel with high-dose BioHAP and additional calcium. The gel can reduce pain sensitivity that occurs in chalky teeth (MIH) or after teeth whitening or professional teeth cleaning. The pleasant, mild flavour makes it easy to make the gel part of the daily oral care routine, even with sensitive teeth.
Teeth remineralisation
Dental plaque and acidic foods remove calcium from the enamel. BioHAP attaches itself to the tooth surfaces and penetrates the resulting so-call demineralized areas. This process is supported by the calcium it contains and is called remineralisation. Because it is so similar to the natural mineral of the teeth, BioHAP can remineralise even deeper layers of the enamel than other active ingredients.
MIH (chalky teeth)
A characteristic feature of chalky teeth is that the enamel is not fully mineralized. This causes external stimuli to penetrate more quickly to the dentine below the enamel and further to the dental nerve. The Tooth Protection Gel can also reduce sensitivity in chalky teeth (MIH) by mineralising the teeth with calcium and forming a protective layer with BioHAP.
Orthodontic treatment
During orthodontic treatment, brushing the teeth alone is often not enough to keep them free of caries. Despite good oral hygiene, plaque can develop around the brackets in fixed braces, increasing the risk of caries. Plaque, if not removed, can produce acids over an extended period. The acids cause the tooth to become demineralised – within just 4 weeks. Karex Tooth Protection Gel with BioHAP and calcium buffers the harmful bacterial acids, thus preventing demineralisation of the teeth and “white spot lesions”. Additionally, the calcium in the gel supports the remineralisation of affected areas.
Suitable for small children
Good oral hygiene from the very first primary tooth onwards is necessary to maintain healthy teeth for a long time. But brushing teeth in babies is not always easy. Older toddlers also frequently want to brush their teeth themselves. However, due to their inadequate motor skills, it is hard for them to brush their teeth thoroughly. Their parents then have little control over how well their children have brushed their teeth. Even helping them with brushing is not enough to make sure the child’s teeth are cleaned well enough. Due to its similarity with the mineral found naturally in the teeth, the calcium-phosphate compound BioHAP is not harmful if swallowed, making it suitable as soon as the first tooth appears.

KAREX Tooth Protection Gel ingredients and their function
INCI | English name | Function'' |
---|---|---|
Hydroxyapatite | Hydroxyapatite |
Hydroxyapatite: - Remineralisation / repairs weakened enamel and dentine - Occludes exposed tubules on the tooth neck, thus preventing sensitive teeth - Biomimetic biofilm control: prevents the bacterial adherence on the tooth, thus preventing caries and gingivitis - Forms a protective layer on the surface of the tooth and thereby offers additional protection against caries - Protection against acid attacks, e.g. from fruit juices ("erosion protection") - Toothlike/biomimetic: Safe if swallowed - additional Calcium source - Clinically proven plaque and caries protection'' |
Calcium Lactate | Calcium lactate | Soluble calcium, bound to lactate. Calcium promotes remineralisation and supports the natural tooth repair process via saliva'' |
Calcium Carbonate | Calcium carbonate | Calcium compound that is also contained in saliva. Calcium carbonate can be deposited in the biofilm (e.g. in the interdental spaces that are hard for toothbrushes to reach) and helps to protect the teeth from acids'' |
Xylitol | Xylitol | Antibacterial and therefore anticariogenic, also stimulates the flow of saliva'' |
Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol | Glycerin, hexane-1,2-diol, octane-1,2-diol | Mild moisturising ingredients. They also give the gel its consistency (glycerin is also the main component of many natural vegetable oils)'' |
Aqua | Water | Excipient'' |
Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Hydroxyacetophenone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Hydroxyethylcellulose | Starch, hydroxyacetophenone, short-chain (liquid) polyethylene glycol, sodium hydroxide, cellulose derivative (similar to cellulose from plants) | These ingredients give the gel its consistency, moisture and solidity'' |
Aroma, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Powder, Limonene, Citral | Flavourings, stevia, lime aroma, citral | Mild citrus mint flavour |
The Tooth Protection Gel is suitable for children and adults from when the very first tooth comes in and is applied to the teeth daily after brushing - using a soft toothbrush or a finger (only apply, do not brush) and spread around with the tongue. The application can be simplified by applying smaller amounts of Karex Tooth Protection Gel several times on a soft toothbrush/ a finger and spreading it in the mouth. Dosage is as personally required.
Please note: The gel does not replace daily tooth brushing, but is to be used in addition.
Expert tip
The longer Karex Protection Gel is applied, the more effectively the enamel can be remineralised. It is therefore recommended to apply the gel in the evening after brushing your teeth and to leave it on overnight. This allows the effect to unfold optimally. The active ingredient BioHAP is also harmless if swallowed.
